Tournament results

The results are in and it looks like the Crackers must have saved their best for the Scorpions, as their best pitcher was used against us. They could not get past the Hit & Run team. We finished 5th overall, just behind the team that knocked us out. We'll get 'em next time!

All good things must come to an end

After scoring 19 runs in our first two games, the boys could not find their bats against the Inverness Crackers (I am still hoping that these guys have Ritz as a corporate sponsor, otherwise their name is just disturbing!). According to Coach Joe, the Crackers' pitcher "was the toughest he's seen in this age group." By my guess, the 6-foot-plus kid was throwing heat close to 70 MPH. So in a tough draw due to their great games earlier in the tournament, the Scorpions were eliminated in the 4-0 loss. On the positive side, Troy pitched a heck of a game!

The boys should walk away holding their heads high, as the Crackers have just one loss this year, going 13-1 entering the tournament. Guess who beat them? The SCORPIONS, in our last tournament.

With 4 games left for the year, we're 6-1 in our last 7 games. As Joe says: "Finish Strong!"

Another one bites the dust

Great outing all around for the Scorpions. Tyler pitched 5 innings, giving up just one unearned run against his former team, while his other Blades team mates also had their moments: Al (aka Tank) had two stolen bases, Jordan hit a bomb of a triple, and Jaylen had a couple of great plays at center and a hit to boot!

The rest of the team also put out their best, with strong defense by Troy with his patented throw-em-out-at-first-from-center play. Alex had a bunch of assists at third. Zeus' throwing out the fastest kid on the Titans at second with Sayvon getting the put-out was impressive. The rest of the team rounded out resounding 13-2 pounding of the Titans! Way to go boys!

One down...

Another great game for the Scorpions. The boys put up 6 runs with a few solid hits and some great "small ball." Chase pitched 4 strong innings, and Troy wrapped things up nicely. Great defense all around in an errorless game.

Final score: Scorpions 6, Willitston Warriors 1.

Saturday: Scorpions vs. the Tampa Titans. Bring 'em on!

Tourney this weekend

Coming off of a 4-game winning streak, the Scorpions are headed off to Auburndale for the Slug-A-Rama tournament. The boys are scheduled to play:

The Willistson Warriors - we have a 2-0 record against the Warriors. Let's keep the momentum going. If we can keep the rain away, this should be a fun game!

The Tampa Titans - here's a rivalry in the making! Four of the Scorpions stars come from the team formerly run by the Titans manager. The boys are really looking forward to this one.

Score updates after the Friday night game! Seeding for Sunday's games will be available after (we win) the first two games.

Go Scorpions!

Nice weekend!

Not only was the weather fantastic, but the boys played a heck of a double header. Scoring 35 runs with HOT bats, the Scorpions showed what they were really made of.

  • We beat the South Tampa Spartans by a score of 23-3 in a hit-fest, with a very impressive pitching outing by Tyler, throwing a very strong full game. The 10-run rule needed to be changed to a 20-rule for this one!
  • In another 10-run rule game, the bats stayed alive against the hot New Tampa Bulldogs. The Bulldogs came into the game with an impressive 15-3 record, but that quickly changed as the Scorpions showed them how an ICE team should play. Final score: 12-2 in 4 quick innings!

GO SCORPIONS!!!
